Will Ipe Hold Up Against an Axe? – Decking vs Axe

In this first episode of Deckbusters, it’s decking vs axe. We put to test the strength of decking against an axe. It seems as if all decking materials would give under the force of a steel blade, but maybe everything is not as it seems. Do you want to know what materials survive and which ones bite the dust? Watch the video of Decking Vs Axe to find out!

Mike, our host, gives us an introduction to what is about to happen in decking vs axe.

“A lot of manufactures of synthetic decking materials claim that their decking material is virtually indestructible. Well, what do you think we’re going to do today? Today we’re going to put those claims to the test. I got my axe, and I’m going to chop it right in half.”

The first material that is tested is composite decking.  Composite decking is made of oil-based plastics, recycled materials and wood fibers. Will it survive that chop of an axe?

The second material that is being tested is a capstock composite. Capstock composite material is made just like composite decking but it has a PVC shell coating.

Next, in decking vs axe, it’s cypress. Emily, our other host, takes a crack at chopping the wood. Is she able to cut through it?

Finally they test the Advantage Ipe decking material. Does this keep in line with the other decking materials that are tested? Is it stronger? Is it weaker? The only way to find out is to watch the video!

Stay tuned for another episode where we put decking to more extreme tests. Which ones will hold up? Which ones crack under pressure? There’s only one way to find out!
