Ipe Lumber Saved this Boardwalk from Dangerous Situations

Tigertail Beach had a dangerous composite boardwalk that was in desperate need of being redone. Watch this video to see why it was a danger to the public and to see why they replaced it with ipe lumber.

Tigertail Beach has a series of five boardwalks that lead from parking areas to the beach. William from OAC Action Construction was a contractor on this extensive project.

“What we had here before was plastic. When you’re walking on it you have a tendency to slip. There’s no traction on it, and being on the beach itself, it would be a hazard to the community.”

Composite decking can become slippery when it’s wet. Mixing that and a public beach, it just wasn’t the best idea. So when it came time replace the deteriorating boardwalk they city of Marco Island chose ipe lumber.

Advantage Ipe was chosen due to it lifetime durability that is has. It can withstand any typical environment and also at the same time, can withstand the lifetime of our kids.”

They used dimensional ipe lumber for this project and the way it is laid out there should be no problems with splinters or popped nails.

“This boardwalk is made out of ipe. It’s your basic 2×6 and 2×8 structure.”

William continues, “The way that they’re patterned, I don’t think you’re going to have any splinter issues.”

William and OAC Action Construction really enjoyed working with AdvantageLumber.com throughout this entire process.

“Working with the salesman at Advantage Lumber was great. Any questions that we had were answered on the spot. We always had a response back quickly from them either via email or by phone. Regardless there was always someone there to be in contact with.”

Obviously, with this being a public area, the less time the city had their boardwalks being constructed the better.  This is why having accurate shipping times is crucial. They received their ipe lumber when they were told they would.

“They were great. They were really dead on, on time tables on when new containers were going to be coming in, when they would be leaving out of Brazil. The people at Advantage Lumber were great to us, they helped us knowing the dire strait we were in, in finishing theses boardwalks and providing us the ipe as quickly as possible.”
