Boca Grande is Home to a Gorgeous 1×6 +Plus Ipe Deck

Boca Grande, Fl doesn’t just have world class fishing; they have some of the most gorgeous houses that sit right on the Gulf of Mexico. In this video we got to speak with Todd Miller with Nathan Tyler Remodeling and Design, and he tells us why he chose 1×6 +plus ipe decking for this project.

“This is an extremely large deck. I was researching ipe and Advantage seemed to give me the best price for the amount of ipe I was ordering. It was a phenomenal savings when I compared it to other lumber companies in the country. I wanted to use ipe on this project because it really fit with the water and the surrounding areas. It worked out really well with this location.”

Todd went with the 1×6 +plus ipe decking because it gave him just a little more dimensional stability than going with a traditional decking profile.

“I used the 1×6 +plus ipe because it gave me more stability in the project even though I was only going with 16 inch centers. It gave me a much more comfortable feel on the deck versus the three quarter by material. It just worked a lot better.”

The original plan has a cedar lap siding to go with the ipe decking, but once Todd started installing the ipe, he switched materials.

“I actually had the walls planned for a cedar lap siding and once I saw the ipe going down from Advantage, it was just the perfect fit for the walls. I had to abandon the idea of going with the cedar lap siding.”

This large project of 1×6 +plus ipe looks superb on this coastal home. It will last for many years even with all of the harsh elements that the Florida weather will throw at it.

“The finished product is amazing. Everyone the sees is it just amazed at how good it looks. Considering it’s been sitting in the sun already for weeks and weeks, If not months and it’s still holding up, it’s just durable.”
